Aspull Yellows 0  v  4  Westhoughton Park Rangers

After a disappointing performance last week it was time to see if the lads could raise there game and get through to the next round.

The windy conditions meant that the ball had to be played low and we kicked off with the wind behind us. This put Aspull under immediate pressure and they battled hard to keep the score level, but it wasn’t until 15 minutes into the match that we got our first goal with a shot from Nathan O’Malley which beat an excellent keeper to his right 1-0

We could have doubled the lead shortly after when Jordan Johnston broke through one to one with the keeper and ended up taking one too many touches which mean the keeper saved his shot comfortably.

Aspull had a few efforts that put us under a little pressure but William our keeper dealt with them well.

Alfie Martin battled hard throughout the first half and made some telling passes that should have been converted in to goals but bad luck and failing to hit the target kept the score at 1 – 0 at half time.

We were kicking onto the wind second half which helped us rather than hindered. We kept the ball low and passed the ball well. It wasn’t long before Nathan grabbed his second going through on his own to slot the ball past their keeper. 2 – 0

We had a few more chances but tried to walk the ball in and gave them chance to make important challenges.

Our third goal came from a great move which started with Alfie winning the ball on the half way line and passing it to Nathan who ran down the wing and crossed it to Jacob Hogan who shot from distance and saw the ball nestle in the bottom right corner of the goal.

Nathan grabbed his hat-trick with another shot form distance which unfooted the keeper and left him with no chance.

A good all round performance considering the conditions and through to the next round of the cup.
