ASPULL V WESTHOUGHTON RANGERS
We welcomed Curtis & Josh back to the fold today and we lined up for the game as follows

Good start from Westhoughton results in an early corner but is cleared and Aspull break quickly and a great challenge from Josh and cool pass out allows Michael to clear the ball down field. Westhoughton come again and Ben tests the keeper who is up to the challenge. Aspull press forwards and win a free kick just in the Westhoughton half. The ball is fired in and Lucas rises well to head the ball out for a corner. Its end to end stuff as westhoughton are the next to go close after a good ball from Dominic to Ben who plays a great ball to Tom who fires just wide. Rob has a great chance to fire Westhoughton into the lead but the ball just wouldn’t come down for him. Westhoughton where now starting to exert some sustained pressure with the midfield duo of Ben and Lucas began to dominate the play in the central area. But Aspull where still very dangerous as Kane had to be on his toes with a great challenge that surely prevented Aspull from taking the lead. The ball is played put and good ball from Dominic played in Tom who deftly turned the defender one way then the next and fired in a fizzing cross where Rob flw in to give the keeper no chance 1-0!
Josh came on for Dominic and Ryan came on for callum. Aspull piled forwards looking for an early repost but Luke was on hand to thwart any danger racing out to smother the ball. Westhoughton where soon on the move again and a sweeping move taking the ball swiftly from Defence to attack with Lucas in full control in the middle finding Ryan who found Ben who smashed a cross in and Robert again the first to react to score a very good goal 2-0.
Aspull pushed forwards but Josh was marshalling the defence well with Kane snuffing out the danger with a typical Kane challenge then Josh found Michael to clear. No panic just good defending.
Westhoughton swept forwards again and Tom who was again causing all kinds of problems winning a corner after yet again striking terror into the Aspull defence. Ben whipped in a great corner and the irrepressible Rob rose to head home his hat trick 3-0
Half Time 3-0
Westhoughton start the second half like they ender the first on the front foot, Ben goes close with a rocket from putside the box which the keeper did well to keep out.
Aspull where no push overs though and worked their way back into this with a couple of quick attacks and managed for the first time to get behind the Westhoughton defense and Luke had to react and react well he did to turn the ball away for a corner. The pressure continued to build as Westhoughton struggled to get the ball away . Micheal cleared the ball away but Aspull came back and got what the spell of pressured deserved a goal when they sprung the offside trap and the forward gave Luke no chance.
Was this the start of a come back ? Well in a word no because where last season Westhoughton may have panicked, this season they are a different prospect and went on to take complete control of the match. Curtis was becoming more influential busting out of defense then finding Ben who shot was well stopped by the keeper, then Ben had about 4 attempts on goal in the next 5 minuets and was very unlucky not to find the net. The ball however was soon in the back of the Aspull net When Josh T won the ball and found Tom who’s persistence paid off and he got the goal his performance deserved with a goal he bundled somehow nto the net. Aspull came again and indeed hit the foot of the post before Luke got the ball. Dominic and Callum came back on for Ryan and Josh t as Westhoughton took complete control of the game and from that point on it was all Westhoughton as they saw the game out well.
Very well done boys another fantastic team performance every one of you played very well.
