WESTHOUGHTON RANGERS 5 BREIGHTMET UNITED 1
A new season and a new division for us. Now back in the B division . Its nice to be back playing again even if it was a little damp.
We lost Jack and Alex in the close season. We however did gain a new player Ryan so welcome to you, and we welcomed back Callum
We lined up as follows for our fist game
Luke
Calllum Kane Josh Michael
Ryan Ben Lucas Dominic
Robert Tom
Zack to come on.
Westhoughton kicked of the new season and where soon on the attack as Lucas pushed forwards and found Tom who skipped past the defender and put in a cross that the keeper came out to cut out. From the kick out Breightmet came forwards and won a free kick cheaply given away just outside the box. The free kick was fired in and Luke had to be on his toes to make the save. Westhoughton where next on the attack and Dom and Ben combined and Ben played the ball into the area and the ball was block by a defender unfortunately for him by using his hands and the ref blew for a penalty! Robert picked up the ball and nerves at all slotted the ball away for 1-0. The goal buoyed Westhoughton and they now started to knock the ball about with some good work with Lucas and Ben linking up well to free Tom who’s cross found Ben who smashed in a shot the keeper did very well indeed to stop. Breightmet look dangerous and almost equalised but for a fantastic double save from Luke and the quick thinking of to clear the ball away. Breightmet came again and a combination of Michael and Josh quashed the threat and cleared the ball away,
Ryan was getting stuck in and did well to win the ball in midfield ad lay the ball off to Kane who drove into the midfield crashing through two challenges before laying the ball back to Ryan the move broke down and Breightmet pushed forwards Dominic won the ball and lays the ball off to Tom who bursts through the Breightmet midfield and plays a superb defence splitting pass to Robert who coolly slots his an Westhoughton’s and second! Shortly before half time a bit of controversy and this time it didn’t involve me J Calllum wins ball well holding off then spinning away from probably the biggest lad on the pitch then finding Tom who was having a fantastic match. Tom got to the bye line and crossed, Robert racing in was fouled in the box but got up to finish well but in between the foul and finishing the ref blew for a penalty but then awarded advantage and allowed the goal. There was a little confusion until it was explained and to be fair the ref was strong it was common sense to allow the goal. Zack came on for Ryan
So 3-0 up and playing very well all over the park could it last !!
Half time came and who would it benefit the most.
Breightmet kick ed off and proceeded to throw the kitchen sink at Westhoughton. Calllum and Kane between them just managed to deal with a very determined raid and see the ball out for a throw. From the throw Breightmet has a great chance and Luke was once again the hero to pull off a fantastic stop from a fierce drive. Breightmet came again and Josh who was once again having a great game made the last ditch challenge and Kane as ever swept up and cleared the danger. There only looked like one team who was going to score and so when Tom picked up the ball and sped past two defenders and found Ben with a great cross. Ben smashed the ball goalwards the keeper made a great save but Lucas did very well anticipating and finished with great aplomb. The goal settled Westhoughton as Breightmet where pushing hard but Westhoughton now began to spread the ball out well with Ben and Lucas at the centre of things. Breightmet where struggling to contain Westhoughton as the two blisteringly fast forwards had the beating of the Breightmet defence. The score line did flatter Westhoughton slightly and Breightmet did get a reward for their endeavours when after failing to clear the ball away Westhoughton where punished when Breightmet cut through the defence to give Luke no chance and this made the score 4-1. Once again Breightmet poured forward and the boys at the back did very well to repel everything that Breightmet where throwing at them. Make no mistake this was a very hard match Ryan replaced the hard working Zack. But Westhoughton always looked the more potent and when they broke out at speed and got their passing game going they always look the more likely to score and indeed this was the case when a fantastically quick break turned defence to attack when Lucas found Tom with a great ball and Tom burst through did not fail and made it 5-1.
Today the boys where fantastic
We had Calllum playing as a defender who did not let us down. Luke was outstanding
The whole of the defence where solid
The midfield bossed the game.
The forwards finished most of the chances they had.
But the most pleasing part was that they played as a team, worked very, very hard for each other.
Very Well done to all the boys today, you worked your socks off and its much appreciated
