Westhoughton where out of the blocks sharpish for this and pressed Bury back right from the kick of and could of scored when Dom found Ben with a good ball and Ben played in Robert with another well placed pass and Rob just fired over. It was a very early warning for Bury. Bury push forwards but Michael tided up well and played the ball back to Luke who cleared up field. Lucas won the ball welland powered through the attentions of the Bury defender to find Callum who jinked passed the defender and found Tom found a great turn of pace to take him clear to cross but the keeper came out to smother. The keeper cleared the ball down field and Ben climbed to head the ball it fel to a Bury player who smashed it clear right into by accident into Bens face. Ben needed to come off to get treatment and Zack replaced Ben. Tom almost opened the scoring with the next attack Breaking well and fireing his shot inches wide. Bury then had their best move of the game as some neat passing opened up the Westhoughton defence and Luke made a brilliant save to push the ball around the post for corner. Bury then had their most consistent period of pressure as Westhoughton struggled to get the ball away but the defence held firm with Josh N and Kane doing a brilliant job battling to win the ball then Kane in typically robust fashion winning the ball and playing a great ball out to Lucas who was having a great game in the midfield played a good ball to Callum who found Rob who managed an overhead kick Callum rushing in got on the end of it to smash home the opening goal 1-0. Westhoughton’ confidence rush back and was boiling over a few minutes later when Lucas unleashed a rocket from what must have been 35 yrds which smashed into the roof of the net 2-0. More pressure from Westhoughton as Zack burst down the wing and found the ever willing Robert who’s shot the keeper managed to smother. The half time whistle came to end a very solid first half performance.
Dominic made way for Josh T and Ben returned for Zack for the second half.
Westhoughton started the second half brightly and Rob had a couple of chances to increase the lead.Zack comes on for Callum. Curtis was now pushing further up the field and after wining the ball with what can only be described a “typical Curtis” challenge burst through the midfield to find Josh T who does well to find Tom who finds Rob with a good ball but the shot stopped by the keeper who releases the ball quickly and Bury break .With Curtis out of position Bury exploit the space and the striker bursts into the area, get around Luke and strikes what must be a certain goal, out of nowhere Michael flies into clear the ball off the line and away fantastic defending. Bury have a period of pressure and great work from Josh N to break up a Bury attack but turns defence into attack with a great break out Kane takes up the ball and finds Ben, Ben now back marshalling the midfield find Lucas who in turn finds Callum who plays a great ball for Tom who burst through the defence and the keeper has to make a great save to deny Tom. Bury break again and are now causing a bit of a problem and Luke makes another fantastic save diving low to his left to steer the ball out for a corner. Dominic comes on for Zack. Bury continue to cause problems and Curtis and Dominic swap positions and it pays dividends right away as Curtis breaks down the wing and wins a throw. Tom takes the throw and Robert spins and smashes his shot into the net 3-0! Westhoughton where now rampant and Ben breaks well after linking with the impressive Lucas and Josh T was unlucky as he fails by a whisker to get on the end of Bens cross. Bury come again and Dominic breaks up the attack to find the hard working Kane who inturn finds Josh N who burst through into the midfield and then threads a fantastic ball to Rob who rounds the keeper and finishes to make it 4-0. Bury press but Lucas does well to win the ball in midfield and finds Ben whos quick feet find Tom who almost scores with a low shot that the keeper does well to stop. Curtis next bulldozes his way through the midfield and keeps going to score his first of the season !! 5-0. Its all Westhoughton now and a great ball from Lucas see’s Curtis harrying the defender into a mistake and bundling the ball into his own net 6-0. Tom again does very well to win the ball and fire a wicked ball into the area Josh T flies in and its 7-0 !! That capped a fantastic display by the boys who not only where impressive going forward but also defended very well and congratulation to Luke for keeping a clean sheet !!
